Procedure Description
- The procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia.
- Light and medium peels do not require any anesthesia.
- After preparing the skin, a series of solutions is applied.
- Light, medium, or deep peels are available. A patient's most suitable option is determined during a consolation with the doctor.
Healing Process
- A skin peel patient is sent home with specific care instructions. Treated areas are washed. Medicated lotions must be applied several times daily.
- After light peels, the treated skin turns red or pink and heals without crusting.
- Medium or deep peels creates a superficial crust or membrane, which will peel off 3 to 7 days after the procedure.
- Redness resulting from deeper peels will fade in a month or two.
- The healing process will reveal a fresh skin surface that is smoother and revitalized.
Insurance Guidelines
- Because this procedure is considered cosmetic, it is not covered by insurance and must be paid by patient.
